Over the last 30 years, Ariane Mouchkine and her company have followed an exemplary and unique path. With this film, which follows the rehearsals of Molière’s “Tartuffe”, she lets us into the day-to-day life of her theater. The film shows this creation in all of its diverse stages. First of all is the “laboratory” where the actors work as a collective, rehearsing every role in the play (the distribution of the roles is not determined at this time) which leaves room for improvization and a more physical and experimental approach. We then see the play taking form on stage with the sets. One question remains: who will play Damis and who will play Valère? Finally, we see the last rehearsals, where theater becomes art by forcing itself to retain the liberty of its beginnings.
