Unlike his fellows, Georges Courteline was hell-bent in everything he did. He
enjoyed demolishing his own hypotheses and obliterating assumptions: fire, madness, hypocrisy, the self-destructive certainties of logic… he used them all. However, he had no need for theatrical twists of plot, preferring the natural ambiguity of discourse and the extremes of dialectics. His working hypotheses may have lacked taste but they also lacked morality.
