Pianist and composer born in Montreal in 1932. Together with Oscar Peterson, he is among Canada’s most prominent jazz musician. Equally renown for his commentary on music as for his piano playing, this tall, modest and affable man has fascinated all the great jazz players he has worked with. Many of his compositions have become standards and he is in himself a living memory of the history of jazz since the 40’s. This first documentary film devoted to Paul Bley will be much more than the portrait of a very charming artist: a musicological exploration of all the great aesthetic innovations that have left their marks on jazz music from be-bop until now.
