IT HAD TO BE YOU

In romantic comedies, when boy meets girl and that girl happens to be the one the boy was madly in love with at the age of nine, you think the two of them are bound to end up kissing at the end of the film and that it will be beautiful and moving. But the trouble is, life is not a romantic comedy… In real life, you go back to live with your parents because you’ve been dumped by your girlfriend. In real life, you have obese friends who try to pick up the 16-year-old daughter of the woman you desire. In real life, you live in the Paris suburbs and you’re bored out of your mind. In real life, you’re depressed, anxious, uptight, embittered, sectarian or alcoholic. But maybe this movie isn’t real life. Maybe this movie is a romantic comedy after all. And maybe at the end of the film, you’re going to kiss this pretty girl all the same and it will be beautiful and moving… Hmm, maybe.
