This is a tale of forged paintings. Nothing could be more ordinary only the action takes place in Ireland, a country with a population of less than 300,000, where everybody is cousins with everybody else and has been for generations. The minor incident suddenly becomes a major affair. The investigation is the longest and most expensive in the country’s history, making headlines and creating a climate of suspicion in which everyone wonders as they look at their walls: is my painting real or is it a forgery?
