Born in Martinique, Dédé Saint-Prix’s roots run deep in the traditional music of his native land. His music combines the rhythms of the French West Indies and the sounds of the modern world. He focuses in particular on a type of music called “Chouval Bwa,” which accompanies the curious merry-go-rounds sculpted by old artisans, which can be found in Martinique during popular festivals. Imbued with the spirit of Martinique, “Chouval Bwa”, like the “Bel Air” and “Damier” styles, symbolizes the island’s musical identity. Dédé Saint-Prix introduces us to several friends, artists and musicians who share his passion for wooden horses.
