Of all the “white” musicians, he is probably the one that most deeply marked the evolution of jazz. His improvisational style integrates all the harmonic subtleties inherited from the great European composers, from Bach and Debussy to Ravel which he studied with passion. His collaboration with Miles Davis at the beginning of the 60’s, represents a crucial moment in the dawning of contemporary jazz.At the same time, his rhythmical ideas renew the traditional conception of “swing”, and his trios offer an
ideal form of interaction between improvisators. His life and career, exemplary in their rigour and artistic passion, make of him, 15 years after his death, one of the most influential musicians of his generationThis is the first film on Bill Evans, authorised by his wife, Nanette Evans.
